Anna Muylaert

Director

Muylaert is a screenwriter, director and producer. From 1980 to 1984, she studied film at the School for Communication and Art at the São Paulo University. She was a film critic and in 1988 began to work for television. After several short features, she directed her first feature film humorous drama Durval Discos (2002). Seven years later she directed her next film É Proibido Fumar, which won many award sat several Brazilian film festivals. Afterwards she directed Chamada a Cobrar (2012), based on her own TV film Para Aceitá-la Continue na Linha (2010). Her humorous drama about modern class differences The Second Mother (Que horas ela volta?, 2015) won many Brazilian as well as international film awards at different festivals. Curently her last film is the drama Mãe só há uma (2016).

Synopsis:

Middle aged Val has been a live-in nanny and housekeeper in a well-off family in São Paulo for more than ten years. She has managed to achieve financial stability but in return she had to leave her daughter to relatives in northern Brazil. Fabinh, the only son of her employees, Val is like a mother, more than she is a mother to her own daughter Jéssica whom she has not seen for many years. When Jéssica lets her know that she is coming to São Paulo to take a university...
