Deray began his directing career with the film The Gigolo (Gigolo, 1960). The critics highlight his film The Sinners (La piscine, 1968) as his best work. His other films include Borsalino (1969), Crime On a Summer Morning (Par un beau matin d’été, 1964), That Man George (L’homme de Marrakech, 1966), The Outside Man (Un homme est mort,1972), Flic story (1975), The Gang (Le gang, 1977).

Synopsis:

Inspector Borniche (Alain Delon) is looking for a dangerous psychopath, Buisson (Jean-Louis Trintignant), who ran away from the psychiatric hospital. This quest lasts three years. During that time, Buisson and the detective Borniche establish a twisted kind of a relationship with each other. The story is based on real events from 1947.
