Omar El Zohairy

 

Studied film directing at the High Institute of Cinema in Cairo. His short film The Aftermath of the Inauguration of the Public Toilet at Kilometre 375 (2014) was the first Egyptian film to be selected for the Cannes Cinéfondation Competition. Feathers is his feature debut. It premiered at Cannes International Critic’s Week, winning Grand Prix and FIPRESCI Prize.

Synopsis:

An absurdist, black-humour story about a woman, a hen and subverting the Egyptian patriarchy. It is Mando’s sixth birthday party and it includes a magic act. One seemingly harmless trick gets out of hand when his father turns into a hen and the magician cannot bring him back. The inconspicuous and submissive mother is forced to take the reins and try to reverse the unfortunate spell.
