Azizollah Hamidnezhad

 

Director
Hamidnezhad is an Iranian director and screenwriter; born in Garmsar, in 1959. He began working on film as an amateur and in 1978 directed 8mm films. In 1983, he began working for Iranian Television and made the documentary Life in Highlands, which won the Golden Plaques for Best Documentary Film at the 5th Fajr International Film Festival. Hamidnezhad won the same award at the 7th Fajr for his documentary Elegy for Halabcheh (1989). His first feature film is Hoor on Fire (Hoor dar atash, 1991). His other films include Earthly Stars (Setaregan-e khak, 1994), The Pinnacle of the World (Gholleh donya, 1995), Tears in the Cold (Ashk-e sarma, 2002) and Stone Blossoms (Shekofehaye sangi, 2004).

Synopsis:

The story takes place around the beginning of the revolution in Iran and the conflict between the government and the Kurds who want to secede from Iran. During a snow storm Kiyani, an Iranian soldier, saves the life of a Kurdish shepherd named Ronak. Because of this, Kiyani gets into conflict with his superiors. Under these impossible conditions, the two people develop mutual respect and even love.
