Dong-hyuk Hwang

Director
Hwang Dong-hyuk is a screenwriter, director and editor. He graduated in communication from the National University in Seoul and afterwards directed many short films. Then he moved to Los Angeles to study film production at the University of South California. At that time he directed his new short film Desperation (2000). He graduated with the film Miracle Mile (2004), and his feature film debut was the drama Ma-i pa-deo (My Father, 2007), which was a development of the story from his graduation film. In his next film, Do-ga-ni(Silenced, 2011), he decided to adapt for film a true story about a school for deaf students in which professors and administrators turned out to be molesters. The film was a huge financial success in Korea and started public debate about the topic and actually encouraged the re-opening of the case and eventually changing ofthe existing laws. His last film Su-sang-han geu-nyeo (Miss Granny, 2013) was another success but this time it was a light comedy with elements of phantasy.

Synopsis:

Light comedy about missed opportunities and new chances in life. The hero of the film is the seventy-year-old widow and grandma Oh Mal-soon who lives with her son’s family. Their relationship is complicated and she realizes that she is becoming a burden for them. Shocked by her son’s proposal to go to a nursing home, she leaves town. She enter a photography studio and suddenly returns fifty years to the past and becomes a twenty-year-old girl once again…
