Director, screenwriter and cinematographer. He was one of the pioneers of Serbian film. After WW I, he graduated in pharmacology in Zagreb in 1923. For a brief period he worked as a pharmacist and then opened his own pharmacy in Belgrade. As a very young man he became interested in photography and in 1925, when he acquired his own camera, began to work on film as well. He established his company Novaković film and had his own studio, lab and several employees. In 1926, he began to produce the so-called Novaković journal that followed current events in Belgrade, Serbia and Yugoslavia. He also made documentaries. His first feature film was the medium-length burlesque Kralj čarsltona (1927). The film was lost and even at the time of its release it was not very popular with the critics or the audience. However, a year later, he started to film his first feature film based on his own screenplay Sinner without a Sin (1930) that was well liked by the audience. In 1929, he rented the Belgrade cinema Pariz (the oldest cinema in Serbia) and called it Novaković cinema. Afterwards, he bought two more cinemas and started to distribute foreign films.
