Juho Kuosmanen

Studied cinema at Aalto University. His feature debut, The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki (ZFF 2016), won the Un Certain Regard Prize in Cannes. His second feature, Compartment No. 6 (2021), also premiered at Cannes, where it won the Grand Prix, together with Asghar Farhadi’s A Hero (ZFF 2021 – Together Again).

Synopsis:

Young Finnish woman Laura and tipsy Russian miner Ljoha meet on a crowded train. Laura is traveling to see the old petroglyphs and wants to become a sophisticated archaeologist who finds fulfilment in such things. Even though they annoy each other, the two strangers develop an unusual relationship of silent recognition on a bitter-sweet journey towards understanding and acceptance of themselves as they are.
