Kiyoshi Kurosawa

Director
Kurosawa is a Japanese director and screenwriter. He was an amateur filmmaker when he was still in high school and later studied film at the Rikkyo University. He made his directing debut in 1983 with the film The Kandagawa Wars, and attracted critical attention with his next film Do-re-mi-fa-musume no chi wa sawagu (The Excitement of the Do-Re-Mi-Fa Girl, 1985). Afterwards he made the series of films Katte ni shiyagare!! (Suit Yourself or Shoot Yourself). He achieved international success with the film Kyua (Cure, 1997), and the following year he did an experiment by simultaneously filming two different films with the same theme: Kumo no hitomi (Eyes of the Spider) and Hebi no michi (Serpent's Path). Afterwards he made Ningen gokaku (Licence To Live, 1998), Karisuma (Charisma, 1999), TV film Kôrei (Seance, 2000), acclaimed horror Kairo (Pulse, 2001), Akarui Mirai (Bright Future, 2003), thriller Dopperugengâ (Doppelganger, 2003), horror Rofuto (Loft, 2005) and Sakebi (Retribution, 2006). He is currently working on Tôkyô sonata (2008).

Synopsis:

Yűji Nimura and Mamoru Arita are colleagues and friends. They are equally unambitious and disinterested in the world around them. They spend their time at work or in Mamoru’s apartment and do not talk about anything at all. Yűji is a silent guy, asocial and with a blank face, while Mamoru has a mysterious smile and takes care of a poisonous jelly fish that he tries to get accustomed to living in drinking water.

Synopsis:

Goro Yabuike, a police negotiator, is completely tired of his work. During his last rescue mission he had a moment of hesitation which cost the lives of both a hostage and a kidnapper. After that incident he was ordered to take a vacation in a forest. One day while on a walk he finds an unusual tree called Charisma. It is in constant danger from people who live nearby and have their own ideas about its survival.
