Link is a German director who studied at the Film Academy in München, where she graduated with the film Sommertage (1990). With the film Beyond Silence (Jenseits der Stille, 1996) she earned an Oscar nomination in the category of Foreign Film, and won Bavarian Film Award, a silver German Film Award and a gold Guild Film Award. She also made Pünktchen und Anton (1999). In 2003, she won an Oscar in 2003 with her film Nowhere in Africa (Nirgendwo in Afrika, 2001).

Synopsis:

This is a story about a German-Jewish family that moves to Kenya before WW II. The mother and the father, who were once successful lawyers, become farmers and long for their homeland. That their small daughter easily accepts her new home in Africa is mainly due to her warm friendship with a native, Owuoro. In 2003, this film won an Oscar in the category of the best foreign film.
