Orlando Lübbert

Director
Director, screenwriter and actor, his full name is Agustí Villaronga Riutort. He knew from an early age that he wanted to be a film director. He made his first shorts in the mid 1970’s, and filmed his feature-length debut Tras el cristal in 1987. This was followed by the fantasy film El niño de la luna (1989) and documentary Al-Andalus: las artes islámicas en España (1992). In an attempt to finance a project, he made the feature film Le passager clandestin (1995) for television, and the big screen horror film 99.9 (1997) at the invitation from the actress María Barranco. He independently filmed El mar (2000), dealing with most common topics: childhood, first sexual experiences, homosexuality and violence. He took part in the omnibus Gracia exquisita (2000), about Gracia neighbourhood in Barcelona, and then co-directed the drama Aro Tolbukhin - En la mente del asesino (2002). This was followed by another television film Després de la pluja (2007). It was his following big screen film Black Bread (Pa negre, 2010) that brought him more significant awards. Those include nine Goya Awards for best film, best director and best adaptation, and it was the first Catalan film that was the Spanish Oscar nominee in the category Best Foreign Language Film. This was followed by the mini-series Carta a Eva (2012) about Eva Peron's visit to Spain in the 1940’s.

Synopsis:

Ulises' cab breaks down in a suspicious and dangerous part of town. Two petty criminals, Coto and Chavela, attack him and give him an ultimatum: either to drive them or they will lock him in the trunk of the car. Having no choice, he agrees to be their driver while they carry out their illegal activities. At the end of it, satisfied with his work, they offer him some of the "earned" money. Barely making ends meet and finding it difficult to support his family, Ulises is tempted...
