Francisco Manso

Director
Manso is a Portuguese director and producer. He graduated in law in Lisbon and afterwards studied film. He directed documentaries Terra Nova, Mar Velho (1983), A Epopeia dos Bacalhaus (1984), Do Porto Santo a Madeira (1988), Funchal - Um Primeiro Olhar (1988), Dez Grăozinhos de Terra (2000). He also directed the short feature film Nostalgia (1995), feature romantic drama Testamento (O Testamento do Senhor Napumoceno, 1997) and mini TV series Almeida Garrett (2000). His next feature film was the drama A Ilha dos Escravos (2005), and then The Last Hanging (O Último Condenado à Morte, 2009), Assalto ao Santa Maria (2010) and The Consul of Bordeaux (O Cônsul de Bordéus, 2011), story about a real historical figure from WW II, co-directed by João Correa.

Synopsis:

After Napumoceno, a rich and single businessman, dies his nephew is disappointed when he finds out that he will not inherit anything at all. Napumoceno has left everything to his maid’s daughter. We later find out that she is in fact Napumoceno’s daughter. The young girl also inherits a recording on which her father tells his life story. The famous singer, Cesária Évora, appears in a small role in this film.
