Seyyed Mir-Karimi

 

Director
Reza Mir-Karimi is an Iranian director and screenwriter. He was born in Teheran in 1966. He graduated with a degree in graphic arts from the University in Teheran. He began his film career making short feature films such as For Him, A Rainy Day, The Rooster and the TV series (Aftab and Aziz Khanom, The Kids From Hemmat School). He made his feature film debut with The Child and the Soldier (Kudak va sarbaz, 2001), and afterwards made the film Under the Moonlight (Zire nue mah, 2001), which won the critics’ award in Cannes in 2001. His other films include Here, a Shining Light (Inja cheraghi roushan ast, 2002), So Close, So Far (Kheili dur, kheili nazdik, 2004) and his most recent film, As Simple as That (Be hamin sadegi, 2008).

Synopsis:

On New Year’s Eve a soldier gets permission to visit his home under one condition: he must escort an underage delinquent to a correctional institution in Teheran. Since he has no other choice, the soldier and the fourteen-year-old boy accused of stealing a necklace start their voyage. The Child and the Soldier is director Seyyed Reza Mir-Karimi’s debut film.

Synopsis:

Sayyed Hassan is a young seminarian who is just about to take his holy orders. Unfortunately, an unknown boy steals Sayyed’s clothing material for the ordainment ceremony. Searching for the boy and his clothes, Sayyed meets a group of homeless people who live under the bridge. They teach him a few “life-lessons” and encourage him to question his religious beliefs. This film received the audience’s award in Cannes in 2001.

Synopsis:

A guard for a mountain pilgrimage finds himself in an awkward position when he has to leave the pilgrimage due to his health problems. He has to find a suitable replacement for himself but the villagers have lost their faith and do not offer any help to the old man. Having no other choice he leaves his mentally challenged nephew in charge of the pilgrimage.

Synopsis:

Doctor Alem is an arrogant neurosurgeon who is a complete control-freak. His beliefs will be questioned when his son, Sahman, is diagnosed with a brain tumor. Sahman studies astronomy and he is currently in the desert with his friends watching the stars. Discovering his son’s diagnosis, doctor Alem goes to the desert. Soon he runs out of gas and the desert wind completely covers his car with sand, so the doctor is in the hands of God, in whom he does not believe.

Synopsis:

Tahereh is a middle-class housewife who spends her life taking care of her husband, daughter and son. While she cares for them, it seems that nobody cares about her. Her husband is always busy, her son and daughter selfish. After all her duties, she has no time for herself. Even though she likes to write poetry she has no time to write; she gave up painting a long time ago. As she gets more depressed every day, it seems that her only consolation is religion.
