Yuji Nakae

 

Director
Yuji Nakae is a Japanese director and screenwriter birn in Kyoto in 1960. After enrolling in the Ryukyu University he moved to Okinawa and began shooting 8mm films. Upon graduation, he founded the Panali Pictures production house and produced 8 mm films. In 1992, he directed the segment of a feature omnibus Pineapple Tours. Afterwards, he directed and wrote the screenplay for Nabbie no koi (1999) and then Hoteru haibisukasu (Hotel Hibiscus, 2002), Koishikute (2007) and Manatsu no yo no yume (2009), an adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Synopsis:

Nine-year-old Mieko lives with her father, mother, grandmother, stepsister and stepbrother in the hotel Hibiscus, their house with one guest room. On the way to school, she saves a teenager, Notojima, who has fainted in the street. Her family puts him in the guest room and takes care of him as if he were a member of the family. When her mother and stepsister go to America to meet her sister’s father, Mieko is left with her hands full.
