Calin Netzer

Director
Director and screenwriter who at the age of eight emigrated with his parents to Germany. He returned to his homeland in 1994 to study film directing at the national university for theatre and film in Bucharest. After he graduated in 1999 he made short films such as Zapada mieilor (1998). His feature debut was a feature drama Maria (2003). His next film, Medal of Honor (Medalia de onoare, 2009) won him several awards at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival in 2009 including the award FIPRESCI and the Silver Alexander Award. His currently last film Child's Pose (Pozitia copilului, 2013) was selected as the Romanian Oscar candidate, and it won the Golden Bear and the FIPRESCI award at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2013.

Synopsis:

Unexpected news on receiving a medal for the services in World War II will encourage the 75-year-old retired man Ion to question his gloomy life. His wife Nina, who he lives with, hasn't spoken a word to him in six years. The situation is the same with his son Cornel who emigrated to Canada and they haven't had any contact since. He doesn't remember what he did that deserves a medal, but he sees it as an opportunity to redeem himself.
