Robert Hamer graduated in economy from Cambridge. In mid 30’s he works as editor in British Gaumont; among others works
on Hitchcock’s Krcma Jamajka (1939). In the beginning of 40’s works as executive producer and screenplay writer in Ealing studios. He makes his directing debut in omnibus Dead of Night (1945). His Ealing comedy, Kind Hearts and Coronets, was a big success that he never repeated again. Probably due to alcohol problems, Hamer never fulfilled expectations that were set before him, even though his talent in later films is still unmistakable.
