Shahbazi studied directing at the Academy for film and television in Teheran. From 1980 and 1990, he made short feature films such as The Rope (1990) and short documentaries such as Kafa (1986), Black Spring (1991). In 1996 he made his feature film debut, Southern Voyager (Mosafere Jonub). His other feature films include Najva (2000) and Nafas-e amigh (2003).
