Synopsis:

Inhabitants of a small town refuse to sell their land for the construction of the railroad. Their sheriff gets killed and they request a new man to wear the sheriff’s badge from the governor. The governor is under the influence of the evil Hedley Lemar, man with strong political connections who wants to make the small town’s inhabitants’ lives unbearable and thus impel them to sell their land for the railroad. So, the governor sends the new sheriff Bart, but he is a black man and at the time that was unthinkable…
