Director
Bacsó is a Hungarian director, screenwriter and actor. He took a degree in directing in 1950 in Budapest. He began his film career with the films Nyáron egyszerü (1964) and Szerelmes biciklisták (1965). His other works include Nyár a hegyen (Summer on the Hill, 1967), A Tanú (The Witness, 1969), Fejlövés (The Fatal shot, 1968), Kitörés (Breakout, 1970), Jelenidö (Present, 1971), Áramütés (1978), Ki beszél itt szerelemröl (1980), Te rongyos élet (Oh, Bloody Life, 1983), Banánhéjkeringő (Banana Skin Waltz, 1986), Sztálin menyasszonya (Stalin's Fiancee, 1991), and Hamvadó cigarettavég (Smouldering Cigarette, 2001).

Synopsis:

This is a story about Katalin Karady, a famous Hungarian singer in the 1940s. The poor composer Miklos Schuttberger writes a ballad Smouldering cigarette for Katalin. She later helps him out by transferring Miklos from the Ukrainian front to Budapest.
