Director
Carl Fredrik von Gertten is a producer and director of documentaries as well as a journalist. He worked as a foreign correspondent and columnist for radio, TV and newspapers in Africa, Latin America, Asia and all over Europe. In 1994, he founded the production company in which he still works as a creative director. He directed documentaries Blĺdĺrar - Om kärleken till ett fotbollslag (1998) about the soccer team Malmö FF, Bye Bye Malmö (2002) about the disassembly of the biggest crane in the world, The Socialist, the Architect and the Twisted Tower (2005) about architect Santiago Calatravas’ project and many others. He gained international acclaim with his documentaries Bananas!* (2009) and Big Boys Gone Bananas!* (2011). The latter follows the legal battle with the American company Dole Foods Company after they sewed the director for his previous documentary about their exploitation of employees.

Synopsis:

After finishing the documentary Bananas!* in 2009, its director Fredrik Gertten was sued by the American company Dole. The film told the story about the lives of poor and exploited workers from Nicaragua who work on banana farms owned by Dole. The company exposed them to illicit pesticides, which poisoned the workers and made them sterile. Instead of giving up after the lawsuit, the director chose to document the company’s tactics…
