Tae-gyun Kim

Director
Kim is a Korean director and screenwriter. He graduated with a degree in social sciences and diplomacy from the Hankuk University in 1986. Afterwards, he graduated from the Korean Academy of Film Arts. He made his directing debut with the comedy Park Bong-gon gachulageon (The Adventures of Mrs. Park, 1996), and afterwards directed the romantic comedy Kiss harggayo (First Kiss, 1998), the successful action drama WaSanGo (2001) and the romantic dramas Neukdaeui yuhok (Romance of Their Own, 2004) and Baekmanjangja-ui cheot-sarang (A Millionaire's First Love, 2006). His drama Keurosing (Crossing, 2008) was the Korean representative for the Oscars in the category of Best Foreign Film, but it did not pass the selection. His latest films so far are the horror Higanjima (2009) and drama Maen-bal-eui Ggoom (A Barefoot Dream, 2010).

Synopsis:

The life of a former Korean national team’s soccer player did not turn out the way he hoped it would. He moves to East Timor to coach a junior soccer team only to find the kids running around barefoot. Instead of coaching, he opens a sneaker shop and hopes to earn some money. Since everybody is broke, his business fails. Exhausted and miserable, he decides to coach the kids for free and prepare them for the international championship junior soccer games in Japan.
