Zaorski is a Polish director and screenwriter who studied at the national film school in Łódź from which he graduated in 1969. At the beginning of his career he directed several short films for television. He continued to work for television later in his life directing many TV series and films. He often directed psychological dramas and comedies such as his film Promotion (Awans, 1974) that won the special jury’s award at the Polish Film Festival in 1975. He attracted more attention with his film Mother of Kings (Matka Królów, 1983) that won the FIPRESCI award in Berlin in 1988 and the Golden Lion at the Polish Film Festival a year earlier. His other films are The Baritone (Baryton, 1985), Lake of Constance (Jezioro Bodenskie, 1986), Soccer Poker (Pilkarski poker, 1989), Happy New York (Szczesliwego Nowego Jorku, 1997), which won the award for Best Director at the Polish Film Festival and the film Haker (2002).
