Synopsis:

Through a personal story and memories of an invisible narrator, poet on his deathbed, the film portrays Russian history of the 20th century in three parallel timeframes: pre-WW I (1935), war years (1940’s) and post-war (1969). Poet’s personal memories intertwine with events that he heard of, imagined or dreamed about in combination with documentary scenes from film news or songs read and recited by the director’s father, Arseniy Tarkovsky.
