Božidar Orešković - Actor’s Biography

Božidar Orešković (Zagreb, August, 21, 1942 - Velika Gorica, July 10, 2010)

Orešković was one of the most famous actors of the Croatian National Theatre and is remembered for his many film and television roles. He is probably most famous as Riđan in the TV series Kapelski kresovi from 1974.
He studied at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb. After graduation his in 1965 from Goergij Paro’s class, he joined the drama ensemble of the Croatian National Theatre, where he remained his whole career. He starred as Othello in Shakespeare’s drama, directed by Mladen Škiljan, as Garcin in the play No Exit by Jean Paul Sartre and directed by Vlado Habunek, as Vanja in Zagrepčanka by Branislav Glumac and directed by Vjekoslav Vidošević, as Hector in Troilus and Cressida by William Shakespeare and directed by Ivica Kunčević, Filip J. Tudor in Amerikanska jahta u splitskoj luci by Milan Begović directed by Jakov Sedlar, Regent Aleksandar Karađorđević in Berenikona kosa by Nedjeljko Fabrio, in the monodrama Ratni dnevnici by Miroslav Krleža directed by Georgij Paro and as Judge Brack in Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler directed by Nenni Delmestra for which he won the Mila Dimitrijević award in 1996. He also wrote eight monodramas, along with many theatre plays and adaptations, as well as the novel Sedmi dan. He made his feature film debut in Fadil Hadžić’s Divlji anđeli (1969). He starred in Pucanj (1977) by Krešimir Golik, Snađi se, druže (1981) by Berislav Makarović, Eagle (Orao, 1990) by Zoran Tadić, Fragments: Chronicle of a Vanishing (Krhotine-kronika jednog nestajanja, 1991) by Zrinko Ogresta, Noć za slušanje (1996) by Jelena Rajković, How the War Started on My Island (Kako je počeo rat na mom otoku, 1996) by Vinko Brešan, Novogodišnja pljačka (1997) by Dražen Žarković, Delusion (Zavaravanja, 1998) by Željko Senečić, Je li jasno, prijatelju? (2000) by Dejan Aćimović, The Horseman (Konjanik, 2003) by Branko Ivanda, Accidental Co-Traveller (Slučajna suputnica, 2004) by Srećko Jurdana, Crveno i crno (2006) by Željko Senečić. On September 1, 2007 he officially retired after 42 years of work in the National Theater and started to act in TV soap operas such as Urota (2007), Ponos Ratkajevih (2007-2008), Sve će biti dobro (2008-2009). On July 10, 2010, he committed suicide in Velika Gorica.
