Mia Oremović was an excellent character actress with a fifty-year long career in film, television, radio and the theatre. She graduated from the School of Applied Arts and the School of Drama Arts (under Branko Gavella’s patronage) in Zagreb. Her love of film took precedence over painting, and in 1942 she began to act in the theatre. She was a member of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb from 1945 (her most important roles include Tanja in Mihail Bulgakov’s New Home, Bianca in Othello and Olivia in Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare) Zagreb Drama Theatre (today Gavella Theatre) from 1953 (her most important roles include Fiancée in Federico García Lorca’s Blood Wedding, Diana in The Dog in the Manger by Lope de Vega, Blanche in Tenneesee Williams’ The Streetcar Named Desire) in the theatre in Zadar as well. In 1967 she resigned from the theatre and became a freelancer. She was Pero Kvrgić’s first partner in the legendary play Exercises in Style by Raymond Queneau, from the premiere in January 1968 in &TD Theatre until sixty performances later, when she was replaced by Lela Margitić. Besides working in the theatre, she also starred in more than forty TV and feature films. She made her debut on the big screen in Vatroslav Mimica’s U oluji (1952). She worked with Nikola Tanhofer in his films It Was Not Useless (Nije bilo uzalud, 1957) and H-8 (1958) for which she was awarded the Golden Arena for Best Supporting Actress. Her most famous film roles were in Krešo Golik’s legendary films I Have Two Mothers and Two Fathers (1968) and One Song a Day Takes Mischief Away (Tko pjeva zlo ne misli, 1970), in which she displayed her talent for comedy. At the Pula Film Festival in 1968, she won a second Golden Arena (Best Actress) for her role in I Have Two Mothers and Two Fathers (1968). She also starred in To Live on Love (Živjeti od ljubavi, 1973) and Violet (Ljubica, 1978) by Krešimir Golik, Slow Motion (Usporeno kretanje, 1979) by Vanča Kljaković, Anticasanova (1985) by Vladimir Tadej, Treća žena (1997) by Zoran Tadić, and appeared in some more recent films, such as Here (Tu, 2003) by Zrinko Ogresta and Snivaj, zlato moje (2005) by Neven Hitrec. Among her most recent TV appearances are her work in the TV series Obični ljudi (2006) and Ljubav u zaleđu (2006).
