Nikola Simić (Belgrade, Serbia, Yugoslavia, May 18, 1934 - Belgrade, Serbia, November 9, 2014)
Serbian film, television and theater actor. He decided to become an actor under the influence of his ten years older brother, actor Slavko Simić. During high school he acted in the drama club and then enrolled into the Belgrade Academy of Theatre, Film, Radio and Television where he graduated in acting. His first professional role was as a student in 1957 in the Yugoslav Drama Theatre. He became its member two years later and successfully appeared in many roles, starting from smaller episodic roles to praised leading roles such as the double role in the vaudeville A Flea in Her Ear by Georges Feydeau. He acted in that play from June 7, 1971 and celebrated his 40th jubilee in 2011. His first more important role on film was the role of a young partisan in the drama Alone (Sam, 1959) by Vladimir Pogačić. Afterwards he starred in war dramas X-25 javlja (1960) by Frantisek Cáp, international co-production Square of Violence (1961) by Leonardo Bercovici, Koraci kroz magle (1967) by Žorž Skrigin and Do Not Mention Cause of Death (Uzrok smrti ne pominjati, 1968) by Jovan Živanović. During the 1960’s he acted a lot on film and television, and some of his most famous films are the drama Gorki deo reke (1965) by Jovan Živanović and comedy Pre rata (1966) by Vuk Babić. Mostly he worked on television and one of his most important series is the comedy Diplomci (1971). In addition, he starred in feature films Girl from the Mountains (Devojka sa Kosmaja, 1972), war drama by Dragovan Jovanović and drama Košava (1974) by Dragoslav Lazić. In 1975, he won the Silver Arena in Pula and Ćele kula in Niš for his role of the Volksdeutscher from Vojvodina in Hitler iz našeg sokaka (1975) by Vladimir Tadej. In the comedy Daredevil's Time (Hajdučka vremena, 1977), by the same director he starred with his brother Slavko. He acted opposite Velimir Bata Živojinović in the comedy Tit for Tat (Nije nego, 1978) by Mića Milošević. Although he already proved to be an actor capable of portraying diverse characters, he gained the biggest popularity and showed the possibilities of his talent in the popular comedies from the 1980’s: Laf u srcu (1981) and Tight Skin (Tesna koža, 1982) by Mića Milošević and its sequels Tight Skin 2 (Tesna koža 2, 1987) by Milan Živković and Tight Skin 3 (Tesna koža 3,1988) by Aleksandar Đorđević. Nevertheless, the most successful film of his career was Slobodan Šijan’s comedy Strangler cs- Strangler (Davitelj protiv davitelja, 1984) in which he portrayed a neurotic police inspector. During the 1980’s he also starred in several other less popular films by the director Mića Milošević and others by Zoran Čalić, including a smaller role in his comedy Druga Žikina dinastija (1986). He also did voiceovers for cartoons and generations of children growing up in Yugoslavia knew him as Bugs Bunny. In the 1990’s he starred in the TV series Srećni ljudi (1993-1996), as well as feature films Tight Skin, Part IV (1991) directed by Milan Živković and the romantic comedy Barking at the Stars (Lajanje na zvezde, 1998) by Zdravko Šotra. In 1992, he received the Branislav Nušić Award for life-time achievement for his roles in comedies. Some of his last roles were in feature films Boomerang (2001) by Dragan Marinković and Jagoda u supermarketu (2003) by Dušan Milić, and in the TV series Ljubav, navika, panika (2005–2007). In 2005, he received the Pavle Vuisić Award for life-time achievement. His last role on film was in the comedy Beli lavovi (2011) by Lazar Ristovski. He died of cancer at the age of eighty in 2014.
