Colm Bairéad

 

Born in 1981 in Dublin, where he was raised in a bilingual environment. He studied film at the Dublin Institute of Technology and made several films in the Irish language. His graduation film Mac and Athar (His Father’s Son) was an international festival success. In 2012, together with Cleona Ní Chrualaoi, he co-founded the production company Inscéal, with which he directed The Quiet Girl (Berlinale 2022 – Generation Kplus – Special Mention of the Children’s Jury).

Synopsis:

Rural Ireland, 1981. Cáit is a quiet and withdrawn girl from a poor and overcrowded family. While her gambling father consistently neglects the children and the farm, her pregnant mother is overwhelmed by worries and chores. When her mother’s cousin Eibhlín suggests Cáit spend the summer with her and her husband Seán at the farm, Cáit’s father reluctantly accepts the offer.
