Ritwik Ghatak
Dacca/Dhaka, Indija - 04.11.1976, Indija

Ritwik Ghatak was born in Dhaka which today belongs to Bangladesh. Ghatak was, like many others, influenced and forever changed by the division of India. For some time he was a member of theatre association Left wing, but when it divided into fractions, Ghatak turned to film. His major preoccupations in films were pulling out from rural areas and cultural trauma caused by the division of country in 1947. In the beginning of 50’s Ghatak works in a film studio and writes a few scripts, but because of his ideas soon leaves it. For some time he was a vice-president of Indian Film Institute. His life was marked by alcohol and tuberculosis; most of his films had no commercial success, only beginning to be appreciated today.
