Kundan Shah

Shah (born in 1947) is an Indian director and screenwriter. He studied at the Institute for Film and Television in Pune, India, and became interested especially in comedy. His interest in comedy is apparent in his debut film slapstick comedy Who Pays the Piper (Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, 1983). He also worked as a costume designer and director and screenwriter’s assistant to Saeed Akhtar Mirza on his film Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Ata Hai (What Makes Albert Pinto Angry?, 1980). He made the situational comedy Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi (1985) for national television. As a partner in the company Iskra (founders Saeed Mirza, Aziz Mirza, Sudhir Mishra and others) he directed part of the sequel to the TV series Nukkad (1987). His series Police station (1987) was censored because it explicitly depicted police violence. He made his next feature film Sometimes Yes, Sometimes No (Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa) in 1993. His film Friends (Kya Kehna, 2001) was successful in the theatres and he later made Hum To Mohabbat Karega (2000), My Heart Is Yours (Dil Hai Tumhaara, 2002) i Ek Se Badhkar Ek (2004).
