Shinohara is a Japanese director who graduated with a degree in law from the Meiji University, but decided to work in the film industry. He assisted many famous directors and directed several short feature films. His most important feature films include Tsuki to kyabetsu (One More Time, One More Chance, 1996), romantic drama Hatsukoi (First Love, 2000), Shisha no gakuensai (School Day of the Dead, 2000), criminal mystery Mokuyo kumikyoku (Suite de jeudi, 2002), Shôwa kayô daizenshű (2003), romantic drama Tengoku no honya - koibi (Heaven's Bookstore, 2004) and the drama Sinkokyű no hitsuyô (The Necessity of Deep Breathing, 2004).
