Soonrye Yim

Yim (Inchon, South Korea, 1969) is one of the most active Korean directors and screenwriters. She studied at the University in Paris and graduated with a thesis on Kenji Mizoguchi. She made her feature debut with the film Sechinku (Three Friends, 1996), and before that she had directed the short film Promenade in the Rain (1994). Then she made the feature drama Waikiki beuladeoseu (Waikiki Brothers, 2001) and Uri saengae choego-ui sungan (Forever the Moment, 2007), which brought her first commercial success as well as critical acclaim. Her last film is So-wa hamque Yeohang-ha-neun Beob (2010) and she also directed a documentary about women in the Korean film industry Keeping the Vision Alive: Women in Korean Filmmaking (2001).
