Synopsis:

Eilis Lacey, following her sister Rose, leaves Ireland in serach of a better future in America. The trip is unpleasant as she suffers from sea-sickness and has terrible experiences with the other travelers. She receives well-meaning advice to find a place to live in Brooklyn where there are many Irish immigrants. So, she soon arrives to Brooklyn and becomes friends with a priest. She gets a job in a shop and falls in love with the Italian Toni. However, news from her home country spoil their relationship…

The film won about twenty prestigious awards and was nominated for Golden Globe in the category Best Leading Actress (Soirse Ronan), for six BAFTA awards, and at the last Oscar’s ceremony it had three nominations: Best Picture, Best Leading Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay.
