Synopsis:
The film is based on a true story about a fourteen-year-old girl who died of cancer in 1985, and was afterwards in the process of canonization. When it was released, the film caused a lot of controversy. The girl's relatives criticized the film's distorted view of the girl's history adapted for film without their consent, while the Catholic organization Opus Dei saw it as negative criticism of their involvement in the family tragedy.
The film won six Spanish Goya Awards: those in categories for Best Film, Director, Original Screenplay, Best Young Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Actress.
