Synopsis:
The film is set at the end of the 19th century, during the abolition of slavery and the fall of the monarchy. We follow the transition of the Brazilian society through a diary of a teenage girl who lives in the colonial town of Diamantina. The film is based on a biographical novel by Helena Morley, who grew up in a mining town that used to be rich in diamonds. Unlike the other townsfolk, Helena's father is stubbornly looking for diamonds, to the detriment of his family, who lives on the verge of poverty.
