Synopsis:
It is the year 1963 in Wroclaw. Doctor Adam Rawicz diagnoses smallpox in one of his patients. Nobody believes his assessment so he sets out to establish the epidemiological chain on his own. Once the epidemic breaks out, the town forms a committee of doctors, town officials and army representatives to fight the disease. The doctors, however, are quite helpless despite their devotion and self-deprication. The disease continues to take its tall. Doctor Olczak, organizer and chief of the isolation unit also succumbs. After several weeks, the disease starts to withdraw. Rawicz and the other doctors, however, receive neither appraisal nor decorations. Adam’s only satisfaction is that the townspeople recognize him on the street.
