Synopsis:
Twelve-year old Samuele lives on a remote island in the Mediterranean. He loves to climb rocks beside the sea, play with his slingshot and wander around the harbor. But his island is not like others. For many years it has been a destination for men, women and children who are trying to cross the sea barrier in small and flimsy boats from Africa. His island is Lampedusa, which has become synonymous with the European refugee crisis and a symbol of hope, trouble and destinies of thousands of people. These people are in search of peace, freedom and a happier life but they often, instead of disembarking, end up in the bottom of the sea. Inhabitants of Lampedusa witness the biggest humanitarian catastrophe of our age on a daily basis.
The film won the Golden Lion in Berlin and the Amnesty International award.
