Synopsis:
The main character in this film is Ivan, an uneducated teenage boy from a village, who is, together with his father, forced to leave his life on the farm and look for a job because of industrialization. With lots of enthusiasm he starts working on the construction of the Dniepr dam but soon gets disappointed when his foreman, without even paying any attention, grades his work as unsatisfactory. At first Ivan is revolted but soon he realizes that it is better to get some education and starts attending school.
