Synopsis:
The veteran of Italian film, Marco Bellocchio, known for radical works that have stirred up the waters of Italian cinema for decades, shows no signs of tiring. The Traitor, which premiered at Cannes and is Italy’s contender for the Oscar, portrays the life of one of the most famous mafia pentitos, Tommaso Buscetta (Pierfrancesco Favino). The mobster, who finds himself between two waring fractions of Cosa Nostra during the 1980s, after he is caught, accepts the offer of judge Giovanni Falcone to become a witness for the prosecution. Disappointed by waning of traditional values of Cosa Nostra and the new direction his associates have taken, Buscetta does not see his act as a violation of the mafia code of silence.
