Synopsis:
This is an adaptation of a 2002 Egyptian bestseller, which portrays the darker side of Egyptian social reality. The common thread is a building in Egypt in which all the protagonists live or work. Once a symbol of luxury and good architecture, today it is faded and inhabited by people from a lower social stratum. Zaki El Dessouki is an example of the ruling class from before the Egyptian revolution; he is a rich and educated engineer who does not care much about religion. Taha El Shazly is a member of the younger generation who turns to an Islamist organization after he gets rejected by the police academy because of his father’s job as a doorman.
