Synopsis:
Heart surgeon Dr. Adam Rawicz accepts a job in a small town. Although he is completely devoted to his patients, he feels alienated in the new surrounding. The only person he feels close to is Teresa, wife of the school principal, but they have to hide their relationship. When Wilinska’s child dies under suspicious circumstances, Adam wants to hand the case to the district attorney. The chaplain, director of the hospital and party secretary convince him that the case should be hushed up since the angry townspeople want to chase Wilinska out of town. After much hesitation he finally agrees to sign that the child died of natural causes. Regardless of his assessment, the townspeople break the windows on Willinska’s house.
