Synopsis:
Norwegian filmmaker Bent Hamer orchestrated his Christmas film Home for Christmas, based on the collection of short stories „Nolu Soft Presents Under The Tree“ by the Norwegian writer Levi Henriksen, as a series of holiday vignettes. Hamer enters the lives of his characters and their (un)connected stories with his camera and the actors open their door widely with expressive face expressions, already familiar from his earlier successful film O’Hortena (2007), with a few or no words at all, drawing inspiration form silent films. “Short cuts“ style of storytelling resembles narration of the favorite Christmas romantic comedy Love, Actually (2003) by Richard Curtis, but Home for Christmas remains somewhere half way between sentimentality saturated with snowflakes and the silent, austere realism of Altman’s Short Cuts (1993).
