Synopsis:
This is an anti-war film made in Italian-Yugoslav co-production based on memoires by Emilio Lussu, anti-fascist activist who later became an Italian senator.
WW I, battlefield in Trentino, sometime between 1916 and 1917; Italian commanders treat their soldiers like worthless ammunition and persistently send them into hopeless attacks on the apparently more powerful Austo-Hungarian army. In one of the attacks an officer gets killed and therefore every sixth soldier is shot by his fellow men in a sort of a bizarre compensation for the killed officer.
