Shirley Temple's first film made entirely in Tehnicolor, and also the last of her most successful films. Captain Crewe is called up to go to Africa to fight in the Second Boer War, forced to leave his daughter Sara in a private school for girls run by Amanda Minchin. Although sad at first, Sara successfully adapts to her new environment. Before the end of the war, she eagerly awaits her father's return. But after the news of his death, she is forced to work as a maid to continue her education.
