Synopsis:
In his latest work, the award-winning director of Rams (ZFF 2015), Grímur Hákonarson, again delves beneath the surface of Icelandic rural communities. This time, the film centres on a rebellious, middle-aged heroine, which has earned it comparisons to Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. After her husband’s death, Inga learns their dairy farm is in huge debt to the all-powerful co-op, whose illegal dealings allow it to hold the local farmers under its thumb. Too complacent to resist the status quo, her fellow farmers prove surprisingly loyal to the machinery exploiting them, so Inga must use all her cunning to free herself from its firm grip and start living by her own rules.
