Synopsis:
Through the personal history of the main character the film follows recent history of the Korean state during the last 60 years. As a boy, Yoon Duk-soo, his family and many other inhabitants of Hungham experience evacuation from the city during the Korean War in 1951. Accompanied by the American military troupes they head south to a harbor town called Pusan. During the travels Yoon Duk-soo loses his sister and soon their father sets of to find his lost daughter. Before leaving he asks his son to take his place in watching over the family.
