Synopsis:
In the beginning of the 20th century in Vienna, pianist Stefan Brand lives a frivolous life, without worrying too much about women with whom he has short encounters. One day he notifies his butler that he plans to leave town in order to avoid the duel set for the next morning. He was challenged by a cheated husband, Austrian baron Johann Stauffer. The butler then gives him a letter addressed to him from an unknown woman. His former neighbor Lisa Berndle explains to him how she had first met him.
