Synopsis:
This is almost a documentary portrayal of people employed in a London broker company. Alan is a fanatic for English history who collects letters from government’s officials, and his wife April adores cats. Giles and Nigel are stuck up brokers and roommates. One evening, a photographer invites April to a photo session of cats and asks her to sell one of the cats to a wealthy lady. Giles and Nigel prepare a dinner and invite their colleague Anthony, lovely Caroline and open-minded Samantha, whose love for the punk rock mentality starts a fire that night… This is another film from the BBC’s series Play for Today. Thanks to the freedom that Mike Leigh gave to the actors in creating their characters, this film bursts with freshness and spontaneity, showing day-to-day lives behind closed doors.
