Synopsis:
Käutner’s first film portrays a world of sailors and prostitutes who spend their time in a bar on the Street of Great Freedoms in Hamburg. An entertainer who works in the bar, because of a promise he made, takes care of his deceased brother’s former lover. Soon, he falls in love with a girl who prefers a young harbor worker.
This film was banned in Germany by the Nazi government because of its unflattering portrayal of German sailors and girls.
