Vukica Đilas Home Movies with live music by the LP Duo
Vukica Đilas Home Movies, director: Vukica Đilas, editing: Slobodan Šijan, live music: LP Duo, 1970.-1990., HD file, 50 minutes
Unfortunately now deceased daughter of the famous dissident Milovan Đilas from Monte Negro i.e. Yugoslavia, Vukica Đilas, was one of the prominent protagonists of the Belgrade art scene in the 1960’ and 1970’s. Most of that time she lived with the also now deceased Branko Vučićević, publicist, translator, film critic and (co)screenwriter of some of the most famous Yugoslav films (Rani radovi, Nevinost bez zaštite, Splav meduze, Slike iz života udarnika...). For almost twenty years, from 1970 to 1990, she filmed her “diaries” with an 8mm camera, utilizing the method of the American underground guru Jonas Mekas according to which you can film everything around you but never for more than a few parts of the second. This extremely interesting part of Vukica’s life was edited by Slobodan Šijan (thanks to whom this material was saved from oblivion) and thus a 50-minute long film was created that represents a fascinating account of the intellectual life of Belgrade of that time. Besides the usual suspects, such as Žilnik, Makavejev, Gotovac and Godina, the film features John Cage, Marina Abramović, Joseph Beuys and others. The screening of the film will be ccompanied by the live performance of the great pianist duo from Belgrade LP Duo, who regularly perform at the Zagreb Music Biennale and who have provided the musical background for this film at the occasion of the opening of the Alternative Festival in Belgrade last year. Besides LP Duo we will also host one of the protagonists of the film Karpo Godina who will provide us with a better context for understanding the film in a discussion with the curator of the program Ivan Ramljak.
The program is organized in collaboration with the Academic Film Center of the House of Culture Student Town from Belgrade.
