Ramadan Suleman

 

Director
He was born in Durban in 1955. In the beginning of his career he directed in the theater and founded the first black theatre in South Africa. After film studies in London he made the documentaries Sekouba (1984) and Ezikhumbeni (1985) and the short film The Devil's Children (1990). He made his first feature film, Fools, in 1997. His latest film is Lettre d'amour zoulou (Zulu Love Letter, 2004).

Synopsis:

Thandeka, a black woman, is a journalist. Her job and relationship with her teenage daughter are endangered by her addiction to alcohol. One day an older woman comes to Thandeka’s office and asks her to testify in front of the commission of “truth and justice” in order to find the body of her murdered daughter and bury her according to Zulu tradition.
