He was born in Durban in 1955. In the beginning of his career he directed in the theater and founded the first black theatre in South Africa. After film studies in London he made the documentaries
Sekouba (1984) and
Ezikhumbeni (1985) and the short film
The Devil's Children (1990). He made his first feature film,
Fools, in 1997. His latest film is
Lettre d'amour zoulou (Zulu Love Letter, 2004).
